Josiah has done really well at sporting events lately. We’ve recently taken him to a few Houston Rockets games. With all the sights and sounds, we thought it just might be too much. We thought all the stimulation would make him extra bouncy. It doesn’t. He actually seems to enjoy it. I would even venture to say Josiah is an avid Sports Fan.
That is, until the last game. Here’s what happened.
We arrived at the Toyota Center and found our seats. As soon as we sat down, Rick left to go get us some food. During the 10-15 minutes he was gone, Josiah began disrobing. First it was his glasses. In one fell swoop they were off his face, ready to be thrown. Fortunately, I was able to grab them before they got away. Then it was his shoes, next his socks.
As I was scrambling to grab discarded pieces, Josiah continued to undress. He grabbed his jacket and tried to throw it. Then mine. Then he tugged at his shirt. I was frantically shoving clothing and shoes under our seats to keep him from tossing anything.
Next the bouncing began. The game hadn’t started and I was wiped out. Rick arrived just in time. He brought a hot dog for Josiah. At first, Josiah was thrilled. He took a bite or two and calmed down. Around the 3rd or 4th bite, Josiah changed his mind.
He grabbed the partially chewed piece of hot dog out of his mouth and hurled it 5 rows ahead. It all happened so fast we couldn’t have stopped it if we had tried. As we saw the masticated meat sailing through the air, we knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.
Smack! It landed on the back of the neck of a twenty something girl with very long hair. Then it slid down her back. She spun around and looked in our direction. Rick and I sheepishly apologized and nodded towards Josiah, hoping she’d get the message. Challenged kid. No social graces. Cut him some slack.
Her boyfriend glared at us. She picked through her hair looking for remnants. More than once. It was all rather disgusting. Especially for her.
After a few more heartfelt attempts to make things right, we just felt better changing our seats. Josiah enjoyed the rest of the game. We stayed until the last few minutes. He sat still and calmly. So, we figured we could take him to an Astros baseball game.
Don’t even get me started. That’s a whole other story. I’ll save it for next time.
Since Josiah loves sports so much, we signed him up just last week, to play baseball. Here he is playing outfield.
