Josiah’s new teacher called last week. She introduced herself and asked if I could bring Josiah to meet her and to see his new school. It’s hard to imagine, but our little guy is going to Intermediate School in just a few days. No more Elementary School that he’s known since the age of 3. No more Ms. Frances or Ms. Cheryl or Ms. Katrina. No more familiarity with the routine and structure he has come to know and expect for the past 8 years. We are on to new horizons with new hurdles to leap over and new hoops to jump through.
Oh We of Little Sleep
Sometimes I wonder if we will have a normal night of sleep, ever again. It certainly doesn’t feel like it. I’m sitting outside the door of Josiah’s room, waiting for sleep to come. It’s 3:22 am. Though I hear him yawn more than once, I know it could be quite a long time yet before Josiah settles down to sleep.
The late night hours seem to energize him some how. We joke that he’s nocturnal. Sitting in the quiet stillness of the dark and listening to his frenzied activity, I almost believe it. Josiah’s energy level greatly increases as the sun goes down. It’s as if he is unable to calm himself down enough to sleep. Instead of winding down, his body revs up.
Take Me Out to the Ball Game
After such a stellar experience at the Rocket’s basketball game, Rick and I figured Josiah might enjoy a professional baseball game. Well, that’s not really accurate. Truth be told, the Cleveland Indians were in town. Rick’s from Cleveland and has followed the team for as long as I can remember. They never play in Houston.
This was a first and Rick wanted to be there.
Sports Fan
Josiah has done really well at sporting events lately. We’ve recently taken him to a few Houston Rockets games. With all the sights and sounds, we thought it just might be too much. We thought all the stimulation would make him extra bouncy. It doesn’t. He actually seems to enjoy it. I would even venture to say Josiah is an avid Sports Fan.
That is, until the last game. Here’s what happened.
Sunday Afternoon
Getting out and about with Josiah is rather challenging. This boy loves to ride in vehicles of most any kind, but he does not enjoy walking. Getting anywhere with him involves getting out of those vehicles and walking.
IF we are able to coerce Josiah out of a vehicle, he plops on the ground. There is something about the texture of concrete that fascinates him. So, while we attempt to get Josiah to stand, he happily rubs his hands across the concrete. Lately, we haven’t been venturing out much with Josiah.
