Transitions aren’t always easy for Josiah. This is where he planted himself when Rick brought him home from the hospital. He stayed in the back yard like this for quite some time. We tried coaxing him and encouraging him. We even left the back door wide open for him. He preferred to lounge across the patio furniture in this not very comfortable position with his knees rubbing on the concrete.
Who knows what was going through his mind. Who knows what he thought would happen when he got back inside. Maybe it just felt so good to be out in the warm Texas sun he just wanted to enjoy it for a while. Josiah doesn’t get much opportunity to make choices in his life. He lives on a schedule and is often instructed where to go, when to go and what to do when he gets there. It must be difficult to have such limited freedom.
All his life Josiah’s been in training to obediently comply. He’s had no words to protest or express his opinion.. Now that he’s a teenager, apparently he’s demonstrating some interest in doing what he wants. Thankfully, he was able to stay out back for a long time. We have a fenced yard with a latched gate. This was an easy ‘battle’.
Not sure what we’ll do when Josiah brings me the van keys and climbs up in the drivers seat.
