Fly on the Wall

MomPrayers05-10If you were a fly on the wall in my house today, you would notice a very tired mom. Here’s why. Chandler woke up well after midnight last night, in horrific pain. Her ear was throbbing. She was crying. She couldn’t sleep. I gave her Motrin and a warm compress for her ear. I sat on the couch with her, rubbing her head and scratching her back til she fell asleep, around 2 am.

Josiah was up, full of energy, bouncing around us as we sat on the couch, until almost 1 am. He fell asleep at 1:30. I carried him to his room and plopped him in his tent. As soon as Chandler nodded off, I covered her with a blanket, left her sleeping soundly on the couch and went to bed myself.

The Laundry Games

laundryForget about the Hunger Games. Haven’t read the book. Haven’t seen the movie. Really out of the loop on this one.  My life is immersed in the Laundry Games. A game it truly has become, thought it wasn’t always this way.

We home schooled when our older girls were in Elementary School. At a young age, each was taught to do her own laundry. I was only responsible for my laundry and Rick’s laundry. Then we added 3 more children to our family. I did their laundry too. You’d think by now I’d have this thing down to a science. Not quite.

A Year In The Making

This morning, I looked back at all the blog posts I have written about Josiah. I’m not sure why I felt the need to do this. Moments earlier I had created a ‘To Do’ list for my day. I even wrote start times next to a few items. My day was mapped out. It needed to start immediately. Next to the first item on my list, I had written, NOW.

So, why then did I sit down to scroll through past postings?

I was quite surprised actually when I discovered it has been one year to the day since I’ve started blogging about Josiah. March 22, 2011 was my very first blog. One entire year. Wow. So much adventure and so much growth in just one short year.

Bouncing Back

plateJosiah is beginning to feel better. He just broke a plate. Earlier today he stood precariously close to the metal trash can in the kitchen. A small grin spread across his face. I was able to whisk it off to a safe hiding place in the laundry room before he could touch it.

My reflexes are getting better. Often times, I am able to catch objects in mid air before they crash to the ground. Not so just now. Chandler and I were enjoying a snack at the kitchen table. Josiah sat next to me in his chair. I gave him his iPad to see what he wanted to eat. He touched the icon that said, ‘I am Josiah’. I smiled. He reminds me of that often.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know

just-wonderingFor some reason, people often think Rick and I have a special communication connection with Josiah.  Josiah is non verbal. So, naturally, people ask questions about him when they need to gather information. Some questions are logical. We definitely have the answers. Others, not so much.

Monday afternoon I spoke with a nurse on the phone. I explained Josiah’s behavior. I told her he was non verbal. I told her he was sleeping most of the day, but woke 2 separate times and cried hard. He cried for close to an hour both times. He hit himself in the head a few times. He moaned a lot.
