Constant Motion

whirlwindAlmost every day after school Josiah goes for a ride of some sort.  It used to be a ride on my bike but he has been too large to squish himself into the attached infant carrier for some time now. Rick recently removed it to deter Josiah from attempting to climb up on it.

The other options are to ride in the wagon or to ride in the van. Yesterday, we did both. My hope was the long wagon ride around the block with the dog in tow would satisfy Josiah.  It didn’t. Moments afterward, as I was relishing the idea of resting on the couch for a quick breather, Josiah was at the back door, trying his best to unlock it to get outside.

Afternoon Adventures

Josiah ambled up the sidewalk after school, pulling his backpack behind him. Opening the closet door, he set his back pack down and walked off. Knowing Josiah would be heading to the kitchen to sit and wait for his afternoon snack, I took a moment to unzip his backpack and remove his binder. In that instance, Josiah veered off course.

Before I even realized what was happening, he hurled the flat screen TV to the ground. It landed with a thud.  Josiah gleefully began tossing it around on the floor. Without reacting, I scooped him up and marched that boy to his room.  I guided him up onto his bed and left.  Josiah has been throwing the TV to the ground for a couple of days. I figured with enough consistency he would eventually get the message that TV throwing equals time out.

Late Night Fun

Josiah loves milk. Last night we realized just how much. Way past Josiah’s bedtime, I heard a loud banging sound in the kitchen. Assuming Josiah was yanking the oven door open and slamming it closed,  as he lately enjoys doing, I raced to the kitchen to redirect him back to bed.

It wasn’t the oven door. Josiah had yanked a gallon of milk from the refrigerator and threw it to the ground. The lid popped off. I found Josiah crouching on the floor, staring intently as a stream of milk flowed from the jug, creating a massive, white puddle all around him. He was fascinated.

He Wins

Winner[2]Over the years Josiah has done a great job of decluttering our home. We have very little ‘stuff” lying around. If you look closely, you’ll notice, no end tables, no lamps, very few decorations of any kind. Those things used to be magnets, attracting Josiah’s attention.  He felt it necessary to see how far he could throw them.

That boy LOVES to knock things over. He repeatedly throws his kitchen chair to the ground. Often,  he scans counter tops for things to throw. Occasionally, at school, he overturns chairs and tables. When he was too little to reach the fireplace mantle, Josiah would hurl a sock or a shirt in that general direction, attempting to knock over figurines.
