Josiah adores his grandma. You can tell the moment you see them together. It had been 3 years since Josiah last saw my mom, but you’d never know it. Recently, Josiah was able to spend a whole week loving on Grand Marlene, while we were in Pennsylvania to celebrate her 80th birthday.
That boy rarely ever left her side. When my mom went to the refrigerator to get something out, Josiah would follow her, plop down on the ground next to her and wait. When she walked to the stove, just a few feet away, Josiah would walk with her and sit down at her feet, content just to be in her presence. Josiah didn’t care where she was going or what she was doing. He just wanted to be with his grandma. He went where she went.
One day, while we played a game at the dining room table, Josiah cuddled up next to her, with his head on her shoulder. Before long, he climbed up over the side of mom’s chair, pushing her slightly forward, so he could sit with her. Mom was amused but so focused on the game, she barely noticed as he squished in behind her.
Josiah proceeded to climb as we continued our game. He climbed over her and around her and on top of her. Grand Marlene began to giggle. It was quite obvious Josiah wanted her undivided attention. He suceeded in getting it. We stopped playing long enough for Josiah to get some Grandma hugs and snuggles. He was so happy just being in her arms.
My mom has had a connection with Josiah from the very beginning. She has always said she and Josiah share a special bond. I think she’s right. Almost the entire time we were in my parent’s home, Josiah wanted very little to do with me. He was very focused on spending as much time as possible with his grandmother.
I loved watching the two of them together. It was so very sweet to see how much they enjoy each other. Josiah doesn’t use words. He doesn’t have to. He made it very clear with his actions he thinks his Grandma is the best.
Now, if I could just convince her to move in with us.
